Bad Luck Flag Puts Hex On Hall’s Shootout Run
Many drivers are superstitious. Some will not run certain colors on their car or have a certain race ritual before the event to ward off bad luck and hope to snag some good luck. Sometimes drivers are forced to deal with bad luck charms and hope they break the cycle. Unfortunately for Kyle Hall, the “bad luck flag” struck Hall Tuesday in the seventh round of the Summer Shootout, dropping him from a potential race winner to a 21st-place finish.
In the sixth week of the Shootout, Hall’s third-place finish vaulted him into the points lead, giving him the points-leader flag for the seventh round. So far this season the driver with the points leader flag has had bad luck the following week after obtaining it, so Hall knew he was a target for the bad luck this week.

“We ended up winning the heat race and it made me think my superstition was wrong,” said Hall. “The car was really strong and I was really confident going into the race. I ended up having to start sixth because I’m the points leader and they inverted the top six.
“The race was going pretty good. The car handled awesome the first half of the race the later it went on the worse it started to get. Then on a restart the first place car, the #88 (Steven Ross) missed a shift. Me and a couple of guys got around him. But I’m guessing the guy behind me never even lifted and hit me. I spun out and collected a few other cars. I tore off my right front and messed up the car really bad. That pretty much ended our chances.”
Hall was frustrated at the incident that put him out of the race, but was glad to get the bad luck out of the way now before the three race “Sizzler” championship chase at the Summer Shootout.
“I was really upset with that but I can’t be to mad about it because today was the last day for the points chase (the “Sizzler”) so I’d rather get all my bad luck out of the way now and go on to next week.”
Kyle Hall will return to Lowe’s Motor Speedway (NC) for the eighth round of the Summer Shootout series in his #69 Semi-Pro Legends car on Tuesday, July 24th. But before he makes his run at the championship in his Legends, he will return to his #69 Late Model Stock Car at Old Dominion Speedway (VA) on Saturday, July 21st.
