Other Driver’s Backup Car Helps Hall Continue Top-10 Streak
Kyle Hall was on cloud nine heading into this weekend’s Late Model Stock Car race at Old Dominion Speedway (VA).  He had just come off his first 2007 Summer Shootout victory in his Legends car Tuesday, which put him in the points lead.  But when he got to the track in his Late Model Saturday, a wreck during practice brought him back down to Earth.

“We were struggling a bit in practice because we had old tires on the car,” said Hall.  “It wasn’t handling the way I wanted to.  But coming in from practice I had an incident with another car.  We ended up on the bad end of the deal.  It tore up our car really, really bad.  Basically we had to use someone else’s car for the rest of the day since ours wasn’t fixable there.”

Even though Hall wasn’t accustomed to the ride for the day, he still got behind the wheel and turned some decent laps in practice and qualifying.

“We ended up using Sam Beatty’s backup car,” explained Hall.  “It was a really good car.  During practice I kept knocking the times down as I got comfortable with it.  But the seat didn’t fit me and the pedals were different from my car.  It handled great but I didn’t know how hard I could drive it since I wasn’t comfortable in it.”

Hall’s decent day continued when he got into the race.  He was able to work his way from a disappointing start back up to sixth on the track, continuing his top-10 streak this year in all of his Late Model Stock Car events.

“On the start I think someone missed a shift on the inside line which dropped me back to 12th.  I ended up being cautious with it since I didn’t want to tear up two cars.  I was able to work my way up to sixth and tried to get fifth but the car got completely sideways coming off a corner so I had to just settle in on the track where I was.”
Kyle Hall will return to Lowe’s Motor Speedway (NC) for the ninth round of the Summer Shootout series in his #69 Semi-Pro Legends car as the points leader on Tuesday, July 31st, then the crew will head back home to repair his #69 Late Model Stock Car in time for the next race at Old Dominion Speedway (VA) on Saturday, August 4th.
